One of the best theater groups to go see is the Impulse Theater, if you’re visiting in Denver, Colorado. Impulse Theater is a comedy troupe that interacts with their audience. Located in the Wynkoop Brewing Company, they put on really amazing shows. What’s really cool about it, is that it’s totally improvised, so no two shows are alike.
The Impulse Theater has been performing since 1987, and they put on thousands of shows annually. All groups and ages can come, since they don’t usually do anything or say anything vulgar or profane on stage, but it is required that if you are under 21, that you attend with an adult. Tickets are $18 each, but if you decide to go in a group of 10 people, you will only have to pay $16 per ticket instead. For this reason, reservations are recommended. I personally think it’s good to make reservations, because the seating is determined by how early tickets are brought.
The Theater opens on Thursdays at 8, and on Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 and 9:45. On the 4th Thursday of almost all months (excluding November and December because of Thanksgiving and Christmas), the Troupe holds an All Age Night, where children can attend without an adult. The content is kept cleaner too.
I really love how the troupe can make people laugh without doing anything disgusting. Adult matter is dealt with, but they usually keep it to a PG-13 maximum. And what’s cool too is that on the first Sunday of each month, the stage opens up to anyone who wants to perform, for a $5 fee. But whether the ticket prices are expensive or cheap, you can get a lot of benefits from your ticket. Your ticket equals a free beer from the Wynkoop Brewery, an entry into local prize giveaways, a free game of pool inside of their basement, and a free drink at one of three other restaurants. This is probably the reason why they have a no refund policy.
The atmosphere of the Impulse Theater is also very neat. Though it’s non-smoking, you are seated with 178 people in a nice 1980’s laid back feeling place. Plus the staff are very friendly and helpful, so you don’t have to be afraid to ask questions. You can also suggest scenarios to the box office, and you can even have the Impulse Troupe do private, customized shows for special occasions, and do high school workshops to train kids in improvisation theater. Rumors are is that they hold a practical joke service for April Fool’s Day, which is something you may want to look into if you’re interested.
Reservations can be made by calling the box office or by ordering from their site online.
